Okay, so, I’ve been wanting a Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag for a while now, but, like, who has that kind of cash? Not me. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy, but I was determined.
First, I went online to check out the official PRADA store. I needed to really see this bag up close, you know? I took a bunch of screenshots from all angles. I mean, I looked at this bag for a long time, I wanted to make sure I got a good idea of it.
Then came the hard part – finding the leather. Turns out, this “Saffiano” stuff is pretty specific. I had no clue what Saffiano even was at first, and let me tell you, it was not easy to get my hands on! But I searched all over, called a few places, and finally found a place that sold something close enough.
Then I started to find materials, I bought some decent Saffiano leather, which is kinda tough to sew, but totally worth it for that textured look, you know? And I got some strong thread and the right needles.
Once I had all my materials, I started cutting the leather. This took forever because I was so scared of messing up. But I measured everything like a million times, drew out the patterns on the leather, and took a deep breath before cutting.
Sewing it all together was another adventure. My sewing machine was not happy with the thick leather, and I had to go super slow. My fingers got pretty sore from pushing the needle through, but I kept at it. I even had to redo a few seams because they weren’t straight. There were a few times I wanted to throw in the towel, but I’m not one to give up so I keep pushing forward, learning as I went. It was really satisfying when I finally started to see the bag taking shape, I had to do a few seams over again because they were wonky, but hey, that’s part of learning, right?
Key Features
- Material: I found that it is made of Saffiano leather.
- Handle: It seems like double leather handle.
- Shoulder Strap: Detachable and adjustable leather shoulder strap, which is pretty convenient.
- Pockets: I noticed it has two zipper pockets on the outside. Handy!
After many hours of work, and maybe a few tears, I finally finished my bag! It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I’m pretty darn proud of it. I think it turned out pretty good, especially for my first try, but it’s definitely not perfect. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it, I even took it out the other day and got a few compliments! I can’t wait to show it off to my friends. I’m already thinking about what I want to make next. Maybe a matching wallet? Who knows!
