Man, let me tell you about this wild goose chase I went on recently. So, I’ve been eyeing this Rolex “No-Date” Black Submariner for a while now. You know, the one without the little date window? Yeah, that one. It’s a real beauty, but the price? Forget about it! Anyway, I thought, maybe I can find a good imitation one from the official flagship store, maybe not the real deal, but something that looks the part, you know? So I made up my mind and took action.
I started doing some research online. I was looking for information about the watch, how to spot a fake, and where to get a decent one. I found that the black dial, ‘No Date’ Rolex Submariner models are pretty unique in the collection, and that makes them even more desirable. I mean, who needs a date on their watch anyway, right? And I learned a lot about these high imitation Rolexes. I mean, these days, they are everywhere. You see them on TV, on the street, it is all about that luxury look. People just want to show off!
Then I tried to find some “authorized dealers” (ADs), because that’s what the forums said to do. They say to build a relationship with them and put your name on the waiting list, but honestly, I just don’t want to play that game. I just want the watch! There are some articles talking about the difference between the Submariner Date and No Date versions, but that was not my major concern.
I did a lot of digging online to find that store. Finally, I found their contact info and gave them a call. I asked them all the usual questions: price, availability, materials, that kind of stuff. The guy on the phone was pretty helpful, actually. He told me what I wanted to know, what they had in stock, and how much it would cost. Turns out, even these high imitation ones aren’t cheap!
I decided to go to the store and see the watches in person. So I drove to the store and found that place.
- First thing I noticed, this store was fancy. Like, really fancy. Polished floors, glass cases, the whole nine yards. Definitely made me feel like I was in the right place.
- Second, they had a ton of watches. Not just Rolexes, but all kinds of high-end brands. But I was there for the Submariner, so I ignored everything else.
- Third, the staff was super professional. They knew their stuff. They showed me a bunch of different Submariner models, even some of the rarer ones like the ref. 5517, which is based on ref. 5513 cases. They told me it was a double-reference because of both 5513 and 5517 reference numbers and that this Military Submariner is highly sought after! But I was focused on the No-Date version.
They brought out a tray with a few different “No-Date” Submariners. They all looked amazing, to be honest. But there were some subtle differences. I remembered reading something about the bracelet and the crown guard. I think it said the newer models, like the 126610, have a slightly broader bracelet and a more streamlined crown guard compared to the older 116610. And the movement inside is different too, the new one is called Caliber 3235 or something like that.
I spent a good hour in that store, just looking at the watches, trying them on, and talking to the salesperson. It was a real experience. In the end, I still could not make up my mind which one I should get. But hey, at least I know where to go when I’m ready to pull the trigger. It’s gonna be a tough decision, but I’ll figure it out eventually. More than I’d spend on a watch, that’s for sure. But I like the look of it, it makes me feel fancy.
Anyway, that’s my story. Just thought I’d share my little adventure with you guys. Maybe it’ll help someone else who’s thinking about getting one of these beauties.
