Okay, here’s my post about remaking the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag:

So, I saw this Prada Galleria Saffiano Mini-Bag and thought, “I bet I can make that!” It’s a classy little thing, and I’ve been itching to get my hands dirty with a new project. Turns out, this bag is made up of 83 different pieces. 83! Can you believe that?

First off, I started researching. Turns out this bag is named after the first Prada store in Milan, opened way back in 1913 by Mario Prada in a place called Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Fancy, huh?

Next, I started gathering my materials. I needed leather, of course – Saffiano leather, to be exact. I spent a good chunk of time just trying to find the right stuff. Then there were the tools: leather needles, thread, cutting tools, and a bunch of other things I’d never used before. I watched a ton of videos on how to use those things, and that took a while.

Then came the cutting. 83 pieces, remember? I made templates from paper first, then carefully traced and cut each piece out of the leather. This took forever! And it was messy. My workspace was covered in leather scraps. I made some mistakes, had to re-cut a few pieces, and some parts are not exactly the same as the original. It’s okay.

After the cutting, it was time to start sewing. This was probably the most challenging part. Hand-stitching leather is tough! My fingers were sore, and I definitely poked myself with the needle more than a few times. I messed up a few seams and had to rip them out and start over. Some of the stitchings were not straight. It took forever to figure out how to do it properly.

  • Cutting the 83 pieces of leather was a nightmare.
  • Sewing the leather was even harder.
  • Putting the hardware on was a pain, too.

Then came the hardware – the zippers, the little metal feet, the logo. I tried to find similar parts online, but it is difficult. Let me tell you, attaching those tiny things was a pain! But I managed to get them all on, even though it took some serious patience.

Finally, after many hours of work, many mistakes, and many moments of frustration, I had something that actually resembled the Prada Galleria Saffiano Mini-Bag! It’s not perfect, not even close. There are flaws here and there, but you know what? I made it! And it works! The zipper opens and closes, and I can fit my stuff inside.

This project taught me a lot, not just about working with leather but also about patience and perseverance. I’m pretty proud of how it turned out, even with its imperfections. It’s not a Prada, but it’s mine, and it feels good to have created something with my own two hands. I would say I am good at handcrafting now. I am very satisfied!

If you are interested in making bags, you can try it too.
