Okay, so, I’ve always been a bit of a watch guy, right? But I never really splurged on anything too fancy. That all changed recently. See, I’ve been fascinated by space stuff since I was a kid, especially the Apollo missions. So when I saw this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” watch, I knew I had to have it.
First I started digging around, it’s a tribute to the Apollo 8 mission, the first time humans saw the far side of the moon. This watch, it’s like having a piece of that history on your wrist.
I read that the Speedmaster Professional typically holds its value well, so I figured it was a decent investment too. I mean, vintage models and limited editions can even appreciate in value, especially this kind of special editions, so that’s a nice bonus.
So, I started looking for sellers. Checked out a few forums, found some decent online shops. Then, I found this one website that had a really good price, I made sure they were legit, read some reviews, and everything seemed cool, although it was a replica.
I pulled the trigger and ordered it. Took a few days, but when it arrived, man, I was blown away. It’s got this dark, kinda rough-lookin’ face, just like the surface of the moon. And the details! They used laser technology and grade 5 titanium to make it, painted it white, and added black details with color laser. It’s insane!
- The dial is skeletonized, so you can see all the little gears and thingamajigs inside.
- The movement, which you can see through the back, depicts the lunar surface. It’s seriously cool, it’s meticulously painted white with black details.
- And around the caseback, it says “Apollo 8, Dec 1968” and “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE.” I love that.
Getting into the details
I started wearing it every day, and I gotta say, it feels amazing. It’s a 44.25 mm, so it’s got some heft to it, but it’s not too big. The black ceramic case and leather strap are really comfortable. And it’s just a conversation starter, you know? People notice it, and I get to tell them the story behind it. And the most important thing is, I found the Reference Number inside the case-back, and the eight digit serial number in the movement, just like the original one.
Honestly, this watch, it’s more than just a timepiece. It’s a piece of history, a reminder of human achievement. And it’s just plain cool. I’m so glad I decided to get it. It’s definitely one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
